OmnibusCloud lets you support computational projects by contributing idle machine power — no cloud expertise, no servers to manage, no money to donate. You choose a project, connect a machine, and let OmnibusCloud use available compute on your terms.
There are two ways to take part, both starting on the portal:

Path 1: Contribute with your machine
If you have a desktop, laptop or workstation, you can help projects by letting it contribute when it's idle. In the public beta, most projects are rendering and creative work, so your machine may help render frames or process visual assets.
1. Explore projects. Open the portal and browse public projects — each has a story, a goal, a creator and a progress page. Find one you care about: an animation, a short film, an architectural visualization, a 3D artwork.
2. Create an account and install the client. Your account ties together the projects you support and the machines you connect. Install the OmnibusCloud client on the machine you want to contribute — this connects it to the network, but doesn't hand it over: nothing runs without your say-so.
3. Join a project and pick your machines. Join the project you want to help. One machine, and that's it; several, and you choose exactly which ones contribute where — your gaming PC on one project, your workstation on another, your laptop left out entirely. Participation is per machine.
4. Set your terms. Your machine should help when it's free, not when you need it — so it works only when idle and within the rules you set, and you can pause it anytime. Schedules & control → covers this in full.
5. Let it help. When your machine is online and eligible, OmnibusCloud assigns work that fits its capabilities — heavier tasks to a strong GPU, lighter ones to a smaller machine — and reassigns automatically if it goes offline. You don't manage any of it. Check back on the portal to follow progress and see what you're helping build.
Path 2: Create a project
If you need compute for a creative or technical workload, create a project and invite people to help. In the public beta, OmnibusCloud starts with rendering — if your work runs through the supported rendering workflow, you can use the portal to tell its story and gather contributors.
1. Prepare your idea. A good crowdcomputing project is a story people can support, not just a task. Be ready to say what you're making, why it matters, what computation you need and what the result will be — with images or video to bring it to life.
2. Create the project. Start a new project on the portal and define the basics: title, description, category, visuals, goal and duration. The portal is built to make projects feel public and human, not like anonymous compute jobs.
3. Tell the story. Explain what contributors are helping to create — "Help render the final sequence of our animated short," or "Help complete a 3D artwork too expensive to render alone." Crowdcomputing works best when people feel connected to the outcome.
4. Publish and invite. Publish your project and share the link with friends, followers, collaborators and anyone who wants to back early crowdcomputing. The portal gives your project a public home.
5. Run the work and keep people posted. The portal is the social layer; the actual compute is submitted through a supported integration, like a rendering plugin. As work runs, post updates — when it starts, hits milestones, or finishes — and share the result. People contribute again when they can see the impact of their machines.
A few common questions
What machines can participate? OmnibusCloud is built for heterogeneous hardware — different machines help in different ways. The beta starts with desktop-class, rendering-capable setups and is designed to grow across more devices over time. Not every machine fits every workload: a project may require a certain OS, GPU or memory, and OmnibusCloud matches work to machines by capability.
What if I need my computer, or want to stop? Your computer stays yours. You can pause a machine, schedule when it participates, or leave a project at any time — control is part of the core model, not an add-on. See Schedules & control →.
Does contributing use electricity? Some — a machine doing work draws more power than one sitting idle, the same as when you render or game yourself. In practice it's a modest cost, and often no change at all: many machines, especially office ones, stay on around the clock anyway. You control how much your machine helps — limit the hours or pause it whenever you like.
Do I have to create a project? No. Most people start as contributors — browse, pick a project, connect a machine, help. Creating a project is optional.
